On 23rd August 2025, the Indian LegalTech Network (ILTN), in collaboration with August, hosted an invite-only closed-door session on Responsible AI at the Bangalore International Centre. The event brought together an extraordinary mix of decision makers, general counsels, and partners from India’s top-tier law firms, underscoring the growing urgency and scale of this conversation.

The afternoon began with an engaging icebreaker on Mentimeter and a LegalTech-themed crossword puzzle led by our ILTN Bangalore Ambassador, Ishaan Jain, setting the tone for a collaborative and participatory exchange. What followed was a rich dialogue that combined deep technical insights with practical legal perspectives.

Case Study: Why Responsible AI Matters in Legal Practice
At the heart of the discussion was a real-world case study exploring how an employment law team faced the daunting task of reviewing nearly 200,000 employment contracts during a high-stakes merger. Traditionally, such exercises rely on sampling — a method that can compromise accuracy and valuation. With AI-powered contract analysis, the team could achieve speed and scale never seen before.
Yet, alongside the game-changing capabilities of AI, the discussion brought forth critical concerns:
Risks of over-reliance on AI and deferring human judgment
Bias and fairness issues across AI models
Data security and confidentiality challenges in sensitive legal work
The “black box” problem of AI outputs and lack of explainability
Gaps between demonstrations and real-world performance
The conversation highlighted that Responsible AI is not about slowing down innovation, but about ensuring trust, accountability, and governance at every stage of adoption.

Thanks to Our Collaborators
A special thank you to Team August and Faiz Thakur from the team for collaborating with us on this session. Their support made it possible to create a high-trust forum where leaders from across the legal ecosystem could come together for an honest conversation on AI’s role in the profession.
Looking Ahead
This event was a milestone in building a shared understanding of Responsible AI within the legal community. The presence of so many general counsels, law firm partners, and senior decision makers itself demonstrated how critical this topic has become.
At ILTN, we believe this is just the beginning. We are committed to growing this community and taking the dialogue to a larger stage in the near future — because Responsible AI is not just a trend, it is the need of the hour.
Stay tuned for upcoming forums, deeper case studies, and continued knowledge-sharing initiatives. The journey beyond algorithms has only just begun.
