The future of legal innovation depends not only on the technologies we build, but also on how we implement them, learn from failures, and collaborate across markets.

On 9–10 September 2026, the Indian LegalTech Network (ILTN) participated in TechLaw.Fest 2026 as an Industry Partner, bringing Indian perspectives to conversations on LegalTech, legal AI, and the global legal innovation ecosystem. The ILTN delegation was led by Nimrat Dhillon, Chief Structure Officer, ILTN, and Vaishali Gopal, Senior Advisor, ILTN.

Across panel discussions and the Fail Camp workshop, ILTN contributed to conversations on the evolving Indian LegalTech market, international collaboration, and the lessons that emerge when technology implementations do not go as planned.

India’s Legal AI Opportunity

At the panel “India: The Legal AI Sleeping Giant Stirs,” Vaishali Gopal joined Brian Tang, Founding Executive Director of LITE Lab@HKU; Dipti Sharma, Head of Legal Technology at Trilegal; and Rohit Shukla, Chief Digital Officer at Khaitan & Co.

The discussion explored the characteristics shaping India's legal AI market and the opportunities emerging as legal organisations engage with AI-driven solutions. Representing ILTN, Vaishali contributed to a broader conversation on India's place in the global LegalTech landscape and the developments influencing the adoption of legal AI.

Connecting LegalTech Communities Across Borders

Vaishali also participated in “Global: LegalTech Associations Around the World Unite!”, a panel that brought together representatives from different markets to discuss the role of legal technology organisations in advancing innovation.

The panel featured Paul Neo, Assistant Chief Executive at the Singapore Academy of Law; Daniel Marques, Director of AB2L; and Brian Tang, Founding Executive Director of LITE Lab@HKU.

The session provided ILTN with an opportunity to represent India alongside international LegalTech organisations and exchange perspectives on strengthening collaboration across jurisdictions. As legal technology continues to develop globally, networks and associations play an important role in connecting communities, sharing knowledge, and supporting the growth of the ecosystem.

Fail Camp: Learning from What Doesn't Work

One of ILTN's key contributions at TechLaw.Fest was Fail Camp, an initiative developed with Justice Adda to create space for honest conversations about failed experiments, stalled projects, and the lessons that conventional success stories often leave out.

Originally introduced for startups, the format was subsequently adapted for legal technology implementation at LegalTechTalk in London in June 2026 before being brought to Singapore. At TechLaw.Fest, Fail Camp focused on the realities of implementing technology in legal environments, including legal operations, practice management, and organisational change.

The discussion surfaced several recurring challenges. Over-engineering emerged as a key concern, with teams sometimes building sophisticated solutions before fully understanding the problems they were meant to address. In other cases, projects prioritised what technology could achieve over what users actually needed.

Another important lesson concerned stakeholder incentives and buyer personas. LegalTech implementations rarely involve a single decision-maker. Even when a solution works technically, adoption can stall if teams misunderstand internal decision-making processes, overlook competing priorities, or fail to account for the people involved in approving and implementing the technology.

These experiences reinforced an important point: successful LegalTech implementation requires more than functional software. It demands a clear understanding of users, organisational dynamics, and the conditions necessary for meaningful adoption.

By creating a confidential space for candid reflection, Fail Camp encouraged participants to treat setbacks not simply as failures, but as opportunities to identify what went wrong and apply those lessons to future projects.

Strengthening India's Voice in Global LegalTech

ILTN's participation at TechLaw.Fest 2026 reflected its commitment to advancing India's LegalTech ecosystem through knowledge-sharing, international engagement, and practical conversations about innovation.

From exploring India's emerging legal AI landscape to connecting with global LegalTech associations and examining the realities of technology implementation, the delegation contributed to discussions that extend beyond products and platforms to the people, processes, and partnerships that make innovation possible.

We extend our appreciation to the TechLaw.Fest team, our fellow panellists, and everyone who participated in the discussions and Fail Camp.
