This week for Waymaker Wednesday, we’re excited to spotlight Supriya Vakil, a Legal Ops & Legal Tech Specialist passionate about transforming how legal teams operate. Based in India, Supriya works on building scalable contracting systems, CLM workflows, and alignment between product and legal teams, all aimed at making legal operations smoother, smarter, and more impactful.
With experience shaping tech-law intersections and advocating for legal-ops as core infrastructure (not just a support function), Supriya aims to make legal work better not just for lawyers, but for the entire ecosystem.

Here’s a peek into her world:
1. What inspired you to join the Women in LegalTech community?
What inspired me to join the Women in LegalTech community is the idea of bringing together talented women who share a common passion for innovation in the legal space. I find it truly inspiring to see so many members with deep experience in this rapidly evolving legal tech market. I felt that being part of this community would not only allow me to learn from their journeys but also enhance my own knowledge and experience, while contributing to a space where women support and uplift each other in shaping the future of legal technology.
2. If you could solve one problem in the legal world (or beyond) with technology, what would it be?
If I could solve one problem in the legal world with technology, it would be automatically identifying and eliminating duplicate data. Often, the same content can appear in slightly different words, or during transitions from paperwork to automation, certain documents get uploaded twice. A smarter system that recognizes duplicates even when headings or phrasing differ would significantly improve efficiency and reduce errors.
3. What’s one book, podcast, or resource that’s made a big impact on how you think about work or life?
One podcast that has greatly influenced how I think about work is Pearls On, Gloves Off by Mary O’Carroll. As a pioneer in legal operations, Mary shares candid insights on building high-performing legal teams and embracing innovation. Listening to her has inspired me to think beyond traditional legal frameworks and approach challenges with creativity and strategic thinking.
4. Outside of work, what’s something you’re passionate about or love spending time on?
Outside of work, I love observing processes and understanding how things work—whether it’s in daily life, workflows, or new systems. It helps me satisfy my curiosity and often sparks ideas I can apply professionally. I also enjoy spending time with my dog, playing and caring for them, which brings me a lot of joy and balance in my life.
5. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received as a woman in your career journey?
The best piece of advice I’ve received as a woman in my career is to keep writing and keep networking. Writing allows me to articulate my thoughts, share knowledge, and establish my voice in the legal tech space. Networking, on the other hand, opens doors to learning from others, building meaningful relationships, and creating opportunities that wouldn’t exist otherwise. Together, these practices have been instrumental in shaping my growth and confidence in my career journey
6. If you weren’t working in law/legaltech, what’s another path you could totally see yourself in?
If I weren’t working in law or legal tech, I could totally see myself in consultancy, helping organizations set up efficient processes and workflows. I enjoy analyzing systems and finding ways to make them work smarter, which aligns well with process consulting. On a completely different note, I’d also love to explore pet boarding, combining my love for animals with a business that brings joy and care to pets and their owners.
Supriya’s story shows that real innovation in LegalTech isn’t only about adding AI or fancy features. It’s about building systems that work for the people using them. Her work reminds us that as we build new tools, we must also build empathy, trust, and usability.
We’re honored to have her as part of Waymaker Wednesday and as someone helping redefine what’s possible when law meets technology.
