Waymaker Wednesday: Women in LegalTech – Meet Megha Bhagat

Megha Bhagat is a social entrepreneur and LegalTech founder working at the intersection of law, technology, and innovation. She is the Co-founder and CEO of Curated LegalTech, where she is building India's first regulatory technology platform focused on compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA). Her work centres on developing AI-enabled compliance solutions, including DATA-INK, a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)-powered legal gap assessment platform, a MeitY-shortlisted Consent Management Portal, and privacy-first tools that help organisations navigate India's evolving data protection landscape.

Before founding Curated LegalTech, Megha co-founded Project DEFY, a globally recognised non-profit that pioneered decentralised learning models across six countries, empowering underserved communities through self-designed education spaces. Her work in education and social innovation has been recognised by organisations including the Rockefeller Foundation, UNDP, and the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

Driven by a belief that technology should advance both innovation and inclusion, Megha continues to build solutions that make legal compliance more accessible while creating meaningful social impact through ethical and technology-enabled systems.

1. What inspired you to join the Women in LegalTech community?

Like every sector, legaltech is no different; it has very few women and very soon will be known only by men who run the sector. If we don't own it, then we will be erased.

2. If you could solve one problem in the legal world (or beyond) with technology, what would it be?

If I could solve one problem, it would be to stop child sex trafficking.

3. What’s one book, podcast, or resource that’s made a big impact on how you think about work or life?

Queen of Swords- an unknown book my father picked up from the roadside vendor in Delhi and gave to me when I was 10 years old. Story of a 19-year-old woman with a child, an absent boyfriend, her ambition to join an artists' residency, a witch as her friend, hotplate food, living in the broken American ecosystem.

4. Outside of work, what’s something you’re passionate about or love spending time on?

I love being bored, sitting in my home doing nothing and watching the time go by.

5. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received as a woman in your career journey?

Your safety comes first; where you sense discomfort/impending assault and your body senses fear, it’s not worth a work opportunity. I have let go of work opportunities because this advice makes absolute sense to me.

6. If you weren’t working in Law/LegalTech, what’s another path you could totally see yourself in?

I have always had different paths I have pursued. I started in the tech association sector, moved on to start a nonprofit, and a co-founding director in a med tech company before I started Curated LegalTech.
