Waymaker Wednesday: Women in LegalTech – Meet Iravati Singh

Updated: 3 days ago

Iravati Singh works at the intersection of law, technology, and risk. She currently works as a Legal Engineer in the Digital and Innovation team at Khaitan & Co., specializing in practice transformation. She focuses on reimagining traditional legal workflows by strategically integrating legal tech solutions to enhance efficiency, scalability and service delivery..

Prior to this, she served as Manager – Legal Technology and Risk at Angel One, where she worked on leveraging legal tech solutions to streamline legal operations, manage risk, and strengthen compliance frameworks within a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. Her role involved bridging legal, regulatory, and technological functions to enable more effective decision-making and scalable systems.

She has also worked as a Legal Officer at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where she gained experience in legal compliance, contract management, and corporate legal functions.

Her work is driven by a focus on using technology to transform legal processes, with a particular interest in legal operations, risk, and the evolving role of innovation in the legal ecosystem.

Here’s a peek into her world:

1. What inspired you to join the Women in LegalTech community?

There's something especially meaningful about finding community in a niche world like legal tech. I was looking for a space where I could connect with other women navigating this new world; where I could, metaphorically, let my hair down. The stories and experiences shared in this community make me feel like I genuinely belong. It's rare to find that kind of resonance in a professional setting.

2. If you could solve one problem in the legal world (or beyond) with technology, what would it be?

No more "quick calls" - I would very much like a work hive mind.

In all seriousness, the problem I'd most want to solve is data hygiene at the origin level. It's an unglamorous answer, but it's something I’m currently struggling with - when poorly structured data enters a system, that dysfunction ripples through every single workflow and process downstream.

3. What’s one book, podcast, or resource that’s made a big impact on how you think about work or life?

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - one of my favorite book(s) of all time. There is no better cure for taking yourself too seriously than a book that gives you perspective on life, the universe, and everything. I recommend it for anyone who needs to occasionally zoom all the way out.

4. Outside of work, what’s something you’re passionate about or love spending time on?

I love learning foreign languages. I have basic fluency in Japanese and Spanish, and I'm always looking for time to brush up and learn more. Thinking in a different language changes how you see the world around you. I am also deeply passionate about trying to keep my one solitary houseplant alive.

5. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received as a woman in your career journey?

"Be overprepared". The reality is that there will be rooms and spaces where you have to prove your value more than others, and overpreparation is the best answer for that. Not because you owe anyone extra effort, but because walking in knowing you've done extra work is its own form of armour.

6. If you weren’t working in Law/LegalTech, what’s another path you could totally see yourself in?

In another life, I'd be in the final stretch of a PhD in some wonderfully obscure corner of English literature. A thesis on something that maybe twelve other people in the world would care deeply about. Or I’d be working as an editor at an indie publishing house!

Iravati’s journey reflects how legal roles are evolving with the integration of technology and risk-focused thinking in modern organisations. She continues to explore how innovation can make legal systems more efficient, adaptive, and future-ready.
