Fail Camp - The Honest Conversation Legal Innovation Needs | LegalTechTalk 2026 | Event Recap

Innovation is often celebrated through success stories. But behind every successful legal transformation are experiments that didn't go as planned—and valuable lessons that rarely get shared.

As a side event of LegalTechTalk 2026, the Indian LegalTech Network (ILTN) and Justice Adda hosted Fail Camp: The Honest Conversation Legal Innovation Needs, a 90-minute facilitated workshop designed to create space for something the legal industry doesn't talk about enough: failure.

Bringing together professionals from law firms and in-house legal teams, the session focused on the realities of implementing legal technology—running pilots that stall, building business cases that don't gain traction, and introducing tools that never see meaningful adoption. Rather than treating these experiences as setbacks, the workshop encouraged participants to view them as opportunities for learning.

Inspired by Amy Edmondson's concept of "intelligent failures," the discussion explored how experiments in new territory—even when they don't achieve the intended outcome—can generate insights that strengthen future innovation.

Participants worked through a customised Value in Failure Canvas, developed by Justice Adda and ILTN, reflecting on what happened, what they learned, and what the wider legal ecosystem can take away from those experiences. Conducted under the Chatham House Rule, the session fostered honest, open conversations that are often difficult to have within organisations.

The workshop reinforced an important message: meaningful innovation requires psychological safety. Progress is not just about celebrating what works, but also about creating environments where legal professionals can openly discuss what didn't—and why.

A special thank you to everyone who participated with openness and generosity, making the session a genuinely valuable exchange of experiences.

We are especially grateful to Vaishali Gopal, Siddharth Peter de Souza, and the LegalTechTalk team for their support in making this side event possible.

As legal innovation continues to evolve, conversations like these remind us that learning from failure is just as important as celebrating success.

Here's to more honest conversations, stronger collaboration, and a legal community that's willing to learn together!
